This week on the H&M Trucking Podcast, we're covering a variety of topics. Chief People Officer Eve Essary will join the show to walk us through the finer points of Open Enrollment this year, so take notes! Then, we'll talk to COO Ryan Holm and Driver Zach Beckman about some shenanigans over at the Gomez Lot. To wrap it up, Driver Erik King joins us to share some recipes and talk about properly appointing your truck for cooking in the cab.

Happy Veterans’ Day from all of us here at the H&M Trucking Podcast!  We’re excited to be joined by 3 H&M drivers that are also Veterans.  Thad McBride, Cameron Balch and Tom Woods will join Denny and Marcus for a conversation about being a Vet, and what it means to each of the drivers.  Denny and Marcus will also talk through some places where you can get free food over the Veterans Day week/month, and we’ll play some music from the President’s Own United States Marine Band.

It’s spooky season here on the H&M Trucking Podcast, and we’re celebrating Halloween by bringing in a couple of H&M employees who love Halloween.  Driver Keith Gros and Recruiter Sherry Vogler will join us as Kieth talks about some spooky experiences and Sherry breaks the news that she used to live in a haunted house where kids’ toys would move on their own. After that, Denny and Marcus will talk about some of the most haunted roads in America.

This week on the H&M Trucking podcast, we’re addressing some changes in our leadership structure.  We’ll welcome President of H&M Trucking James Fonda, Chief Operations Officer Ryan Holm, Chief People Officer Eve Essary, and introduce you to our new Chief Financial Officer, Jami Bahle.  After that, we’ll talk to H&M Driver Thad McBride, who hails from Augusta, Georgia.  Thad and his fill in dispatcher Lindsay Goodin will walk us through how Hurricane Helene has hampered their work days.  Finally, Denny will bring us a list of items he used to keep on the truck during the winter months.  Find the list below!

Things to consider
 
Park where you can stay warm – in the event your truck has
issues.
Check the wind forecast – try to park with your ass to the
wind.
If the lot is iced over, after parking for your 10 hr. break,
wait a few minutes to let the tires cool. Then, move
your
rig a few inches.
 
Ensure H&M’s heater units are fueled (add anti gel)
And, run a while to make sure they are operating properly.
Preplan the entire trip adjusting each days driving times and
routing.
Weather forecast – be ready to adjust YOUR schedule
Plan alternate routes – you may need them.
Pre-plan where you will stop - and at least one backup
just in case
 
Find a way to let those close to you know your plans. And, where
you stop for your break.

If the roads are “Slushy”, clear all your lights, blinkers, etc.
EVERY TIME you stop.

This week on the H&M Trucking Podcast, we’re welcoming Tim Krueger from JFL and H&M Driver Zach Beckman off the top to talk about the freight market.  We’ll dig in with Tim to see how the load boards are looking and how he’s feeling about the market’s future, and we’ll get Zach’s thoughts on what he’s seen on the ground level and how he’s feeling about it.  After that, we’ll be joined by H&M’s Executive Vice President Dale Cook and H&M Safety Manager Dean Edmunds for a conversation focusing on H&M’s Samsara Safety Score.  We’ll talk about recent adjustments to the metrics, how the score is looking currently, and what can be improved upon.

Truck stop safety is always in the front of our minds, and today on the H&M Trucking Podcast, we’re hearing a first-hand account.  H&M Driver Tommy Bash will join us along with H&M Driver Thomas Woods Jr.  Tommy had a close call recently where he was hit while walking at a fuel island, and Tom has no shortage of crazy truck stop stories either.  We’ll also welcome Teddy Arnold for a quick update about all the tire slashing happening at truck stops in the south.
