The H&M Trucking Podcast

This podcast is for drivers, and this episode is all about drivers!  We’re not talking to any office staff, we gave Deanna the week off, Emo Marcus is on vacation getting his head right, which leaves only the drivers to take the wheel.  This week, we’ll profile drivers Bud Swartz, Kevin Baker, Chris Twogood and Lorus Axt!  If you want to hear from your fellow drivers, this is your episode!

This week on the pod, we welcome driver Arie Visser who hails from South Africa and he tells us a hair-raising story about limited visibility.  On that note, we’re talking severe weather and wildfires this week.  Eve brings us her own story of riding in a truck with her husband when high winds make an appearance, and of course she lays down the law!  We also hear from Dean Edmunds about being prepared for inclement weather and Deanna brings us her Quick Stop tip of the week!

This week on the program we tip our caps to all the Fathers of H&M!  First, we welcome a couple daughters to the show with Deanna's Quick Stop and Faith Adam's first appearance (who just so happens to be the illustrious Eve's daughter)!  After that, we hear from Chris Gussenhoven for the driver profile, President and dad James Fonda crowns Jim Musel as H&M Peak dad, and Jim Musel graciously accepts and gives us some insight into being a Dad!  Happy Father's day to all our amazing Dads that tune in every week! 

This week on the program we tip our custom H&M caps to the women behind H&M Trucking!  We catch up with Deanna as she brings us her Quick Stop Tip Of The Week.  Marine vet and H&M Controller Patty Rupp stops by to fill us in on how being from a military family shaped her outlook, and Hopper Division Manager Brenda Hampton gives us some insight on creating lasting relationships with drivers. Our driver profile features Lori Chilton, a veteran driver of 17 years. Finally, we hear from President James Fonda about how the women in the office keep him in check! 

This week we’re getting down to business and talking about steer tires.  Jim Musel, Service and Equipment Manager for H&M makes his first appearance on the show and shares some knowledge on managing your tires.  We hear from Dean Edmunds in safety and check in with deanna in driver advocacy who shares a rather chilling anecdote.  Then we meet driver Tony Bertolf and talk to President James Fonda about an unfortunate experience on the beach!

This week on the show we’re helping you manage your hours.  There are so many little intricate ways that hours can be versatile while you’re taking your breaks and resets, so we decided to talk about it!  Deanna stops by for her weekly check in and a new segment!  We talk to safety specialist Shelly Bridger, who is an expert on managing time, and Executive Vice President of H&M Dale Cook shares some tips with us on personal conveyance.  Eve makes her monthly appearance to help Marcus with his scheduling and Lay Down the Law.

On this week’s episode, we’re discussing the freight market. Tim from JFL Logistics will join us to give us some great insight on the condition of the market and teach us a bit about how this whole brokerage thing works.  President James Fonda lets us in on how the relationship between H&M and JFL functions, and our good friend Maria from Unplugged OTR stops by because we knew you were missing her!

Our focus this week is on the CVSA’s International Roadcheck, going down between May 16th and 18th.  We talk to Deanna from Driver Advocacy, and Ray Sorenson, shop foreman, walks us through the ways that drivers can be prepared in the case that they end up with an inspection.  Safety Manager Dean Edmunds also stops by to share with us about bonuses drivers can earn for clean inspections and we chat with him a bit about load securement. Our driver profile this week is on Air Force Vet Greg Waits, and President James Fonda and Marcus set up a date to eat oysters in Omaha.
